How to Fix Root Bound Plants
A plant becoming root bound is very common if your plant has been growing in a small pot for a while or when you purchase a new plant. Above is a picture of a tomato plant I got today.
Once I took it out of the container it looked like this! This is how a lot of your store-bought plants will come. If you notice this in a plant from your home it means it's time for a bigger pot and more dirt!
While it may be tempting to dig a hole and place the plant right in it's not beneficial in the long term. The roots being so tangled and condensed inhibit its ability to properly absorb water. So you'll want to gently and carefully break up these roots.
You will end up tearing some which isn't ideal but this practice benefits the plant in the long run. You'll want to start slowly from the middle until you feel the base of the plant really loosen up.
Then you can plant it in its new home! Simple as that!
Happy planting!
